Knots

Every scout should know these basic knots. These are requierd for the Scout Standard Badge.

• Reef (Square) Knot
• Clove Hitch
• Bowline
• Round Turn and Two Half Hitches
• Sheepshank
• Sheet Bend
• Figure of Eight Knot

The Advanced Knots are more difficult and have more specialized uses. These are required for the Advanced Scout Standard and the Chief Scout Award

• Fishermans Knot
• Timber Hitch
• Triple Bowline
• Fireman's Chair

Splices are used to repair frayed rope

• Back Splice
• Eye Splice
• Short Splice

Whippings are used to prevent ropes from fraying

• Simple
• West Country

Lashings are used to bind together two or more spars.

• Square
• Diagonal
• Sheer
